How it works

Everyone plays, then the best play on.

Split the field into pools of three to 8teams in snake order, so the top seeds spread out. Each pool plays a round robin. Standings sort each pool by win percentage and then the tiebreakers, and the top teams from every pool are seeded into one playoff bracket: pool winners first, runners-up next, with first-round games arranged so two teams from the same pool don't meet again straight away.

Organizers like it because the games are predictable: a team in a pool of 4 plays exactly 3 before the playoff, every pool round can run at once on enough fields, and nobody drives an hour to lose once and leave. The trade is more games than a bracket, which the size pages count for every split.

Live

What the live page does that paper can't.

Standings that keep themselves

Scores go in from a phone, the pool tables re-sort with the tiebreakers applied, and the cutoff line shows who's in. Ties in a game are allowed.

A playoff that seeds itself

When the last pool game is final, the bracket appears, seeded from the standings, with rematches avoided where the bracket allows. Up to 32 teams per division, every division on one page.
